Surgical Instrument Processing Technician

We are seeking a dedicated Surgical Instrument Processing Technician to join our team. This role involves the processing and sterilization of surgical and hospital instruments, as well as the assembly of surgical instrument sets and trays. The ideal candidate will effectively distribute patient care supplies and equipment.

Job Summary

The Surgical Instrument Processing Technician will be responsible for the decontamination, processing, and sterilization of instruments and equipment. The technician will also assist in maintaining a clean and orderly environment within the department.

Essential Functions

• Decontaminate and process instruments by compiling instrument sets, counting instruments, and recording counts.
• Sterilize instruments, trays, and basins with appropriate exposure and drying times.
• Prepare instruments for immediate use sterilization when required.
• Maintain cleanliness in the department by regularly wiping counters, sinks, and equipment surfaces.
• Cleans autoclave chambers on a weekly basis.
• Assist with room turnover and housekeeping duties in the operating room, as needed.
• Pick supplies and instruments for upcoming cases.
• Conduct daily diagnostic testing on sterilizing equipment, including biological indicators.
• Evaluate instruments for function and safety during reprocessing.
• Provide reprocessing services for instruments from various ancillary departments.
• Record and maintain logs for loaner instruments.
• Assist in various technical services and support operations as directed.

Job Requirements

Education and Work Experience

• High School Diploma or GED: Required
• Associate’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience: Preferred

Licenses/Certifications

• Sterile Processing Technician certification: Required

Organizational Requirements

All associates are required to receive the necessary vaccinations as a condition of employment and annually thereafter, subject to applicable medical and religious exemptions. Additionally, the organization participates in employment verification processes.
